Prince William recently reflected on how a trip to a homeless shelter in England influenced his work fighting homelessness. The Prince of Wales releases a documentary titled Prince William: We can end homelessness and in that documentary photographs are shown showing the young prince, not yet a teenager, with his mother, Princess Diana, and his younger brother, Prince Harry.

“My mother took me to El Pasaje; She took Harry and me there. “I had never been to something like this before and I was a little anxious about what to expect,” Williams says in a clip from the newly released documentary.

The year-long documentary shows the early stages of Prince William’s Homewards initiative. This program was launched by the prince and his Royal Foundation in June 2023. Homewards is a five-year project in six key locations across the UK. The goal is to demonstrate that it is possible to end homelessness.

The series is directed by BAFTA winner Leo Burley. It features the personal stories of people who are currently homeless or have experienced homelessness in the past.

Prince William has long been an advocate for homeless issues.

He also fondly remembered how his mother put everyone at ease by “laughing and joking with everyone” and their time playing chess with the people who lived at the shelter.

“I remember having good conversations just playing chess and chatting. That’s when I realized that there are other people who don’t have the same life as you,” he said in the clip.
