Curly-haired stunt doubles were no match for the real deal when the actor himself, Timothée Chalamet, stunned hordes of fans at a stunt contest in Washington Square Park.

Hundreds of people had packed the park at 1pm on Sunday, when the unofficial contest was scheduled to take place. The winner was promised a cash reward of $50.

Chalamet lookalikes were seen milling about in the crowd, some inspired by the actor’s on-screen roles. Willy Wonka and Bob Dylan were seen in the crowd.

There was much commotion among the anxious crowd hoping to catch the various Timmy impersonators and the NYPD, who had officers trying to control the growing group of onlookers. Police attempted to disperse the large crowd for gathering without permission.

A police spokesman said at least one person was detained and summonses were issued.

Amid the chaos and confusion of the event, Chalamet appeared in the middle of the crowd, surprising a potential double by posing for some photos.

Once the dust settled, the contest organizer appeared to crown the winner dressed in the purple Wonka cape.

Initially, the event was treated with skepticism. However, The Gothamist He confirmed that the hosts and the event are real. One of the presenters declined a formal interview with the outlet, saying they “didn’t want to ‘ruin the excitement’ of the event.”

The “Wonka” star produces and stars in “Marty Supreme,” a biopic of table tennis champion Marty Reisman, alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and rapper Tyler, the Creator.
