Woman who left her boyfriend trapped inside a zippered suitcase discovers her fate

WINTER PARK, Fla. (WKRC) – A woman who left her boyfriend trapped inside a locked suitcase during an apparent drunken game of hide-and-seek has met her fate.

According PEOPLE,Sarah Boone, 47, of Winter Park, Florida, was found guilty of second-degree murder on Friday after a full day of closing arguments. WKMG reported that Jorge Torres Jr., 42, died of asphyxiation back in 2020 after being trapped in a suitcase.

A portion of Boone’s interrogation was uploaded to Official WOFL YouTube channel.

Boone’s attorney attempted to defend her as a domestic abuse victim who suffered from battered spouse syndrome, according to the station.

Prosecutors refuted the claim and showed cellphone video recorded by Boone showing the victim inside the suitcase. In the video you can also hear the victim saying that he can’t breathe.

PEOPLE reported that Torres was found dead inside the suitcase on February 24, 2020. Boone claimed that she and Torres had been playing hide-and-seek the night before, saying that at first they thought it was funny that he could fit inside. the suitcase

Boone claimed that at some point, her boyfriend’s “tone” changed while he was trapped inside the suitcase, saying she began to fear he would hurt her if she let him out, according to Law & Crime. Boone recorded video at two points during The Incident and Torres can be heard begging him to let him out at certain times.

On Oct. 22, 2024, Boone took the stand and said he went into the shower to hide and, after waiting “quite a while,” decided to “start finishing the night” before going to bed, according to the publication.

Boone testified that he went downstairs to find Torres and claimed that “he was trying to lay flat so he couldn’t see he was there,” according to PEOPLE.

At some point, Boone began spinning the suitcase, testifying that it then “fell down,” according to the publication.

She claimed Torres had been abusive in the past and told the court she believed it was a good time to speak candidly since he “couldn’t get out,” according to PEOPLE.

“His tone changed, and I knew the tone, and we ended up, I guess, arguing with each other,” Boone said, according to the outlet.

Boone later began recording the conversation with Torres, who continued to beg him to let him out of the bag, the publication reported, adding that when Torres was able to get one of her hands out of the bag, Boone punched her. with a baseball bat until she put him back inside, saying she was afraid he was “going to come out of the suitcase.”

According PEOPLEWhen asked if she had done anything to help her boyfriend get out of the suitcase, she responded “no.”

Prosecutors claimed Boone did not mention any alleged abuse during his interviews with police, according to the publication.
