Vallejo man suspected in chase that injured Petaluma officer

A Vallejo man is suspected of leading authorities on a chase that led to a collision with a Petaluma police officer in September, authorities said this weekend.

Jason Hellman, 51, is being held at the San Mateo County Jail after previously being arrested on an unrelated matter, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

In Sonoma County, Hellman is suspected of possessing a stolen vehicle and other allegations related to the chase, authorities said.

Sonoma County investigators said they identified Hellman as a suspect in a chase and collision on Sept. 7 that took place along southbound Highway 101 near Cotati.

He is accused of fleeing after an officer tried to stop him for a traffic violation. Sheriff’s officials said he then drove recklessly, exceeded 100 mph and drove on the wrong side of the highway.

Deputies ended the chase before Hellman “intentionally” rammed the Petaluma police officer’s vehicle, causing him a minor injury, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Hellman’s vehicle was found abandoned, officials said, adding that they learned it had been stolen from Solano County.

They searched Hellman’s Vallejo home in the 1000 block of Alabama Street on October 24.

Inside, they said, were several boxes of ammunition and Vallejo resident Adam Jackson, 42, who had a warrant for his arrest for violating the terms of his post-release community supervision in Napa County.

Jackson is being held at the Solano County Jail on suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and on the warrant.

Investigators also found suspected methamphetamine, which is still under investigation.
