Discounted bus fares for teenagers introduced

A new teen discount bus ticket has been launched offering a third off for those traveling through East Cheshire.

The council said the pass was available to residents aged 16 to 19 traveling on buses at any time. The card offers a third discount on the standard adult rate.

The scheme will be trialled over two years and is funded by the Department for Transport.

Cheshire East Council said the 16-19 bus savings card was valid for journeys that start or end within its borders. Young people between 16 and 22 years old who leave guardianship also have the right to travel free with the pass.

The council said the smart pass would be sent out once people applied online.

Councilor Laura Crane said: “Bridging the gap between childhood and the beginning of adulthood is a difficult enough time for a young person without having to think about the affordability of getting around.”
