Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s Salary Soars to $79 Million Despite Smaller Bonus

Microsoft CEO Nadella SatyaTrump’s compensation increased 63% to $79.1 million for the financial year ending June 30, and would likely have been higher without his intervention.

The software giant’s boss received a salary of $2.5 million, $71.2 million in stock awards, a cash incentive of $5.2 million and $170,000 in other compensation, according to a filing from Thursday power. He was paid a total of $48.5 million in the previous financial year.

Nadella had been hoping for a $10.7 million cash incentive, but asked the board for less after several high profile cybersecurity breaches in the period.

“Mr. Nadella agreed that the Company’s performance was extremely strong, but reflecting on his personal commitment to safety and his role as CEO, he asked the Board to consider departing from established performance metrics and reducing its cash incentive to reflect his personal responsibility for “The focus and speed required for the changes shown by the current cybersecurity threat landscape were necessary,” the document reads.

Nadella’s stock award was worth $39 million the year before. Microsoft shares soared more than 30% in the 12 months to June, driving its market value to north of $3 trillion as well as the value of the CEO’s options.

The stock has enjoyed a stellar run as investors bet that Microsoft, a investor in ChatGPT maker OpenAIwould be a key beneficiary of the rise of artificial intelligence.

Revenue rose 16% to $245 billion in the period, boosting operating income 24% to $109 billion.

Nadella’s compensation is comparable to other Big Tech leaders. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple received a payment of $63.2 million during the company’s last financial year, while Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia pocketed $34.2 million.
