Alabama man accused of leading Kentucky authorities on chase to appear in court

GLENDALE, Ky. (WAVE) – Authorities said they arrested a man who fled a traffic stop without a fight in Hardin County Thursday night, but not for lack of trying.

Kentucky State Police said a KSP trooper detained a man near Mammoth Cave in Hart County on October 24. He drove more than 20 miles north before crashing the car and running into a cornfield in Glendale.

According to an arrest citation, the suspect is Jecore Monte King, 26, of Eight Mile, Alabama, a community near Mobile. He was booked into the Hardin County Detention Center on the following charges:

  • SPEED 26 MPH OR > SPEED LIMIT
  • FAILURE OF OWNER TO MAINTAIN REQUIRED INS/SEC, FIRST SHUTDOWN
  • RECKLESS DRIVING
  • NO LICENSE PLATES
  • FLEEING OR EVADING FROM THE POLICE – 1ST OFFENSE
  • FLEEING OR EVADING FROM THE POLICE – 1ST OFFENSE
  • RESIST ARREST
  • MARIJUANA POSE
  • DANGER WITHOUT LICENSE-1ST DEGREE

“It was a little stressful because we knew the suspect was nearby,” said Jenny Roten, who works at one of the nearby businesses.

Those businesses were closed for hours while police searched for the suspect, considered armed and dangerous.

Homeowners were asked to stay home and roads were turned into parking lots as police created a perimeter to find the suspect.

“The interstate was closed,” Roten said. “There really was no traffic in and out of the area.”

Authorities from Elizabethtown Police, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police used helicopters, drones and ground officers to find the suspect.

He was captured around 7 pm. No injuries were reported.
