A man has been jailed for attempting to kidnap a two-year-old boy in front of his terrified mother.

Reece Jolliffe, 28, was drunk when he entered the victim’s home through an open door around 4 a.m.

The victim’s mother woke up to find Jolliffe at the foot of her bed with her son in her arms.

When disturbed, Jolliffe left the child and ran out of the house.

Police officers rushed to Jolliffe’s home and arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping.

The victim’s mother woke up to see Reece Jolliffe standing at the end of her bed, holding her two-year-old son.

During the interview, Jolliffe claimed he did not remember what happened after leaving the pub.

Jolliffe, of Amesbury, Wiltshire, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and was sentenced to two years in prison.

He was immediately given a two-year prison sentence and a 10-year restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victim’s family and attending their home.

In a statement read to the court, the victim’s mother made clear the devastating impact Jolliffe has had on her family’s life and the constant fear she has left them with.

She wrote: ‘I didn’t sleep for months. I spent every night at the end of my bed watching the back door.

“I was terrified of everyone and everything. I will never trust anyone again.

Jolliffe received an immediate two-year prison sentence and was placed on a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim's family.

He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £187 to fund victim services.

Sergeant Matthew Goldring said: “This was a deeply disturbing incident for the entire family.

‘We do not know all of Jolliffe’s intentions when he entered the victim’s home, but his actions were significantly alarming.

“I would like to personally thank the victim’s mother for her bravery in reporting this to Wiltshire Police and trust that we would bring Jolliffe to justice.”
