Peterborough United have signed a striker in the prime of his career.

Swedish striker Gustav Lindgren will formally join Posh when the January transfer window opens. The 23-year-old is likely to arrive fresh from helping his current club, Degerfors, to the second division title in his homeland. Lindgren has scored 13 goals in 26 games for a team that needs a win in its last three games to take first place and be promoted to the top flight. He has scored four goals in his last three appearances.

Lindgren has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Posh in a deal that could be worth more than £500,000. He will join his former Degerfors teammate Oscar Wallin at London Road.

“I’m excited about the change,” Lindgren told the Posh Plus service on an arranged visit to meet his new teammates and check out the club’s facilities. “I’ve seen clips and footage of matches, so I know what to expect.” I first heard that a move could be possible in the summer, unfortunately the Swedish transfer window was close, but then we found a way to do it in January.

“There is a clear plan for me here and it helps me to have a great friend at the club as he can show me the best restaurants.

“I am a direct forward who works a lot and I like to run behind. I am having the best season of my career in a club where I have really enjoyed playing. From the first minute I arrived I had a great connection with the fans.”
