Dodgers game tonight: World Series game and cluster of events in Los Angeles area raise concern over carmageddon

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Anticipating a potential traffic nightmare due to a confluence of sporting and entertainment events on Friday and Saturday, including the World Series, Mayor Karen Bass on Thursday announced a coordinated effort to reduce traffic, ensure public safety and promote attractions local.

On Friday, the Dodgers will face the New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium for Game 1 of the World Series, the first time since 1981 that the teams will meet in a Fall Classic. Later that night, the Lakers host the Phoenix Suns at Crypto.com Stadium.

Meanwhile, at the LA Coliseum, the USC Trojans are scheduled to play Rutgers on a college football night.

Additionally, Inglewood will host two big events: the East LA Classic football game between Theodore Roosevelt High School and James A. Garfield High School at SoFi Stadium, and David Gilmour, of Pink Floyd fame, playing a concert at the Intuit Dome .

Some have described the set of events as possibly setting the stage for a “carmageddon.”

“Ahead of tomorrow’s World Series, we are working to ensure that the city is safe, that traffic is minimized and that visitors and Angelenos alike can enjoy the many attractions, culture, food and neighborhoods that make Los Angeles a international icon”. destiny,” Bass said Friday during a news conference at City Hall.

Los Angeles city officials are stepping up safety and traffic congestion measures amid the World Series and other big events this weekend.

“My message is that Los Angeles is ready, ready to host the World Series, ready to welcome visitors from near and far, and we are ready to win. Go Dodgers!” Bass added.

Bass said the city’s emergency operations center will be activated at level three to coordinate efforts. The Los Angeles Police Department is expected to deploy additional officers and increase their visibility at various locations, while the Los Angeles Fire Department will position paramedics and staff to be ready.

The LAPD will help the Department of Transportation address traffic problems. LADOT will deploy more than 100 white-gloved traffic officers at key intersections and locations to help direct drivers.

The City of Los Angeles has also reached out to app-based companies for accurate and efficient GPS routing.

“But there is a quick, easy and inexpensive way to avoid all the traffic, which is to go to the Los Angeles Metro,” Bass said.

Ticket prices for the World Series opener at Dodger Stadium against the New York Yankees have skyrocketed, but a Dodgers spokesperson urged fans to buy before the series sells out.

LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo also noted that there will be higher than average traffic volumes and that people traveling to the city center and surrounding neighborhoods should expect congestion.

LADOT special traffic operations engineers developed a traffic plan that includes the Dodger Stadium Express Lane, reversible travel lanes for entering and exiting venues, and strategies to reduce impacts to residential streets.

“Our mission is to make the travel experience as safe and efficient as possible,” Rubio-Cornejo said. “You can help us do this by always obeying the instructions of traffic officers, and those who drive, please do so safely and with full attention to your surroundings, as there will be many people walking, cycling and taking public transport for each of these events.”

Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins urged Dodger fans and World Series attendees to ride the Dodger Shuttle Express from Union Station. Transportation agencies will add more buses and expand transportation services to get fans to the game.

On media day, Dodgers and Yankees players talked about their preparations and expectations ahead of the World Series.

In light of the death of Fernando Valenzuela, LADOT and Metro renamed the Dodgers Express lane to Line 34 in honor of the Dodgers legend’s uniform number.

“We strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of public transportation,” said LAPD Acting Police Chief Dominic Choi.

He reminded fans that if they decide to consume alcohol they should make arrangements to get home safely without driving.

“Let’s continue to show the same positive energy we have throughout the season and avoid any behavior that could harm ourselves or others,” Choi said. “We want to make this World Series exciting and memorable for everyone, and with your help I know we can do it.”
