Woman seriously injured after accident between car and bus carrying children in Co Limerick

A major emergency operation is underway in Ballylanders, Co Limerick, after a car and a bus carrying children were involved in a collision this afternoon.

A large number of ambulances, gardai and two helicopters responded to the scene.

It is understood that several people have been injured. A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 115 was assigned the task but was later withdrawn.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Shortly before 3pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a car and a bus on the R513 in Ballylanders County. Limerick.

“One of the occupants of the car, an adult woman, has been airlifted to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.”

They added: ‘All occupants of the bus were medically assessed at the scene and none required immediate hospital treatment. The road is currently closed to traffic and local detours are in place.’
