Ayatollah Ali Khamenei seriously ill, his son Mojtaba is a likely successor

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei85, is seriously ill and is likely to be succeeded by his second eldest son, Mojtaba Khamenei, when he dies on Saturday. New York Times disclosed report.

The report noted that Khamenei’s serious medical condition created a “silent battle” over his succession. He also stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps he would have a say in who would become the ayatollah’s successor.

Concern about Khamenei’s successor increased after former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash last May.

Khamenei has been Supreme Leader since 1989, when Ruhollah Khomeini, the first to hold the title, died.

Report comes after Israel’s response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack

He Times The report came shortly after Israel responded to Iran’s ballistic missile attack earlier this month by attacking numerous military sites early Saturday morning.

Iranian officials have said they do not want an escalation with Israel, the Times added report.
