Lerone Murphy beats Dan Ige and calls Emmett

ABU DHABI – Leron Murphy resorted to his fight to remain undefeated against Dan Ige at UFC 308.

Murphy (15-0-1 MMA, 7-0-1 UFC) was defeated early before recovering to defeat Ige (18-9 MMA, 10-8 UFC) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29 -28). ). The featherweight fight was part of the main card of UFC 308 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Ige stalked Murphy to start, attacking him to the body and landing a nice combination. A minute and a half into the round, Ige tackled Murphy for a knockdown. Murphy managed to escape by turning his back and exiting the body lock. A cut opened on Ige’s face. Murphy landed a nice spinning kick to the body. Ige then knocked Murphy down with a big counter and attacked him. Murphy covered up and responded with a counterattack, before knocking Ige down late in the round.

Ige continued to advance in Round 2. Murphy appeared to recover when he landed a body kick, followed by a straight right hand. The pace slowed significantly until Ige decided to try to take him down. Murphy turned him around and started working for his own takedown. Neither man was successful as they returned to the center of the octagon. With less than a minute left, Murphy took Ige down and mounted him. He transitioned to his back and then performed a triangle choke to end the round.

With the score seemingly tied at one round a piece, Murphy immediately attempted to take the fight to the ground. Ige defended well, but took a knee on the counterattack. Murphy landed a head kick, followed by another takedown attempt. Ige turned it around and finished in first position. Murphy tried to use a leg lock attempt to escape, but was denied. Ige tried to take Murphy’s back, but Murphy was able to get back up. Murphy then got a takedown of his own and worked for a front headlock. The pair traded in the pocket in the final 15 seconds as the clock wound down.

Following his victory, Murphy criticized former interim featherweight title challenger Josh Emmett.

Emmett respondedand seemed apparently unimpressed.
