Ronald Tannur is arrested again for the death of his girlfriend

Jakarta. Prosecutors rearrested Gregorius Ronald Tannur on Sunday after the Supreme Court found him guilty of aggravated assault that led to the death of his girlfriend Dini Sera Afrianti last year in a case that has gained national attention.

“Ronald Tannur was arrested today at 2:40 p.m. at a house in Victoria Regency Complex, Surabaya,” Attorney General’s Office spokesperson Harli Siregar said in a text message. “He is now in the custody of the East Java Prosecutor’s Office. The arrest followed the Supreme Court’s guilty verdict.”

Ronald was initially acquitted of charges of murder and aggravated assault by Surabaya District Court judges in July. They argued that the woman died from consuming too much alcohol and that Ronald had no malicious intent to kill her, despite video evidence showing Ronald crashing his car into Dini in a parking lot in Surabaya.

The panel also ordered prosecutors to release Ronald immediately.

While appealing to the Supreme Court, the Attorney General’s Office secretly launched an investigation into the judges.

On October 23, the Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had arrested the three judges (Erintuah Damanik, Mangapul and Heru Hanindyo) along with Ronald’s defense lawyer, Lisa Rahmat, on bribery charges. Searches of his residences in Surabaya, Semarang and Jakarta turned up bills totaling more than 20 billion rupees ($1.3 million). Prosecutors allege that the judges received bribes from Ronald’s lawyer in exchange for his acquittal.

Following these arrests, the Supreme Court overturned the acquittal and sentenced Ronald to five years for aggravated assault, rather than murder.

Two days later, the Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of a former Supreme Court official identified as Zarof Ricar for allegedly accepting bribes from the defense team to influence judges in the hope that the acquittal would be upheld during the appeal process. .

Zarof, who retired from the Supreme Court in 2022, is accused of taking Rp5 billion from the lawyer to distribute between the three judges who handled the case and himself.

However, a search of Zarof’s private residence in Jakarta uncovered 920 billion rupees ($58.8 million) in cash and 51 kilograms of gold bars, which prosecutors linked to his past corrupt conduct while serving. in the Supreme Court.

It is not yet clear whether prosecutors will bring corruption charges against Zarof in connection with the money and gold finds.
