17-Year-Old Killed, 3 Others Injured in Englewood Car Crash; Police say the driver ran the light.

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy was killed and three others were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night near the intersection of West 71st Street and South Ashland Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood on the city’s southwest side.

According to Chicago police, shortly after 10 p.m., a white SUV traveling east ignored a traffic light and was struck at the intersection by a gray SUV traveling north.

Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian crossing the street in Skokie.

A witness told WGN that the gray SUV pushed the white SUV a considerable distance and the wrecked vehicles ended up in front of a gas station, with one nearly hitting a gas pump. Security video from the gas station captured part of the accident.

“A very strong and very terrifying impact,” said the witness. “The white car almost overturned and the airbags went off.”

Police say the passenger in the white van, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An identity has not yet been revealed.

The driver of the white SUV, a 40-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, according to police. The driver of the gray van, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition with a concussion, and the passenger of the gray van, a 27-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital. in serious condition with a hip injury.

According to police, traffic tickets are pending and the Major Accident Unit is investigating.
