CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WAVE) – The daughter and estranged wife of former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel were in court on Monday, October 28.

Misty and Kasey Noel are accused of spending thousands of taxpayer dollars on the New Chapel EMS credit card. They were in court Monday to discuss the possibility of an upcoming trial.

Misty and Kasey were originally supposed to go to trial on October 28. However, the date was pushed back in hopes of reaching a plea deal to end the case without trial.

Instead, they met for a status conference Monday to discuss the possibility of a plea deal and set trial dates. Misty and Kasey Noel are now scheduled to go to trial on February 3 at 8:30 am.

The Noels’ attorneys and state prosecutors said they are still trying to reach a plea deal, but have not yet reached one.

If Misty and Kasey agree to plead guilty in a deal with prosecutors, that would avoid a trial altogether.

“I think it was necessary to see what happened in Jamey’s case to see if his sentence was accepted, that type of thing,” said Kasey’s attorney, Sunnye Bush-Sawtelle. “We wanted to see what happened at the sentencing, so I think that has been the reason perhaps for this delay in the trial, but I think we are far from saying that an agreement cannot be reached, but we are certainly not saying that we cannot go “. to trial.”

Neither lawyer specifically said why they had not yet reached an agreement. In court on Monday, there was also some discussion about whether Jamey’s confession at his sentencing would have any impact on the plea deal for Misty and Kasey.

When she pleaded guilty, she said through tears: “It was all my fault.”

It appears that defense attorneys may want to use those statements to shift the blame in their plea deal negotiations to Kasey and Misty and Jamey alone. Both the judge and prosecutors appeared to cast doubt on Noel’s statements given his prior history of falsehood.
