Citrus Grove Elementary Fourth Grade Teacher Named Martin County Teacher of the Year

MARTIN COUNTY — Citrus Grove Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Vanessa Molina-Council was named the district’s teacher of the year on Friday.

Molina-Council has been a teacher in the district since 2013. She has been recognized for providing “highly engaging, standards-aligned lessons” designed to meet students’ different learning styles, according to a statement from the district. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Indian River State College and minors in English for Speakers of Other Languages ​​and reading.

She founded the Spanish Club and the Cheerleading Club at Citrus Grove. Additionally, she is vice president of the Martin County High School Tiger Regiment Boosters and volunteers for the Hidden Oaks High School color guard.

The district’s Teacher of the Year was announced during the Martin County Education Foundation’s annual Teacher of the Year Awards Celebration at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center in Port St. Lucie.

Molina-Council will now be considered for state Teacher of the Year. Finalists for the state award will be announced in May. A state committee of parents, teachers and educators reviews each district winner’s application.

Molina-Council was also named the district’s elementary school teacher of the year. Jensen Beach Middle School teacher Samantha Pankhurst was named high school teacher of the year. Pankhurst teaches AP Human Geography and AP United States History. Hidden Oaks Middle School teacher Alicia Carter was named Middle School Teacher of the Year. Carter teaches creative writing, digital media, and physical education.
