The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) announced a Halloween curfew for sex offenders on probation or parole.

Columbia, South Carolina (WOLO) — Halloween is just a few days away and the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services is making sure your little ghouls and goblins get treats instead of dangerous tricks. The agency announces its curfew for sex offenders during Halloween night.

According to the department, all registered sex offenders must comply with a statewide curfew from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 31. During these hours, all offenders under supervision for crimes against a child will not be permitted to participate in any activities that attract minors to come to their homes and will not be permitted to attend carnivals or Halloween parties. Additionally, porch lights and exterior lights must be turned off, they will not be allowed to leave their homes during restricted hours, nor will they be allowed to hand out candy.

Authorities say sex offenders will be under surveillance by officers who will make home visits on Halloween night.

SCDPPPS officials say that in 2023, 174 officers conducted 624 home checks on Halloween night across the state. Authorities say six arrests were made on Halloween night, while a total of 11 were made in the month of October.
