1 deputy and 1 officer were seriously injured while conducting a traffic stop in SLC

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) deputy and a Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) officer suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries after a crash in US Highway 1 and North 25th Street in Fort Pierce on Saturday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 11:25 p.m., a 41-year-old man from Vero Beach was driving north on 25th Street in the outside lane while two St. Lucie County deputies and a Florida police officer Fort Pierce were standing outside their vehicles conducting a felony stop inside the outside lane of US-1.

The driver, by not moving, struck the rear of an SLCSO vehicle, which then, due to the impact, struck the other two police vehicles and two of the officers.

Vero Beach man has been arrested for DUI.

“The officers and the officer are banged up, but everything will be okay,” Pearson said. “We are grateful for all the prayers and support.”

The road has since been reopened to the public.
