Nikhl Israni identified as man shot to death in Lowell Monday night

Authorities on Tuesday identified a man shot and killed Monday in Lowell as 24-year-old Nikhl Israni.

Israni, a city resident, was found on the road near Middlesex and Maude streets shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. When police arrived, they found Israni with gunshot wounds and took him to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent said in a joint statement. , Greg Hudon.

Bravindah Mawanda, 20, is charged in connection with Israni’s death. Prosecutors say the couple was in Israni’s car when Mawanda shot him several times before fleeing to his home. Prosecutors say Mawanda was found in his home with a weapon “consistent with” Israni’s wounds.
