Man sentenced after collision on M5 near West Bromwich left car overturned and motorway blocked

Jacek Lagowski was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a car overturned on the M5 northbound near West Bromwich on December 29.

The collision closed the section near junction 1 for almost an hour while emergency crews West Midlands Fire Service and National Highways cleared the area, while Lagowski was taken to hospital for evaluation.

The 54-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, as well as a public order offence.

He appeared before magistrates in Walsall on Tuesday and pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on February 11 at Dudley Magistrates’ Court.

He is free on bail with conditions until that date.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “A man has been sentenced following a serious collision on the M5. Jacek Lagowski was arrested on December 29 and charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

“The 54-year-old man was also charged with a public order offence. Lagowski appeared before magistrates in Walsall on December 31 and pleaded guilty.

“He will be sentenced on February 11 in Dudley Court of First Instance and has been released on bail with conditions until that date.”
