Benue ALGON chairman seeks FG intervention for schools, infrastructure – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Chairman of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Maurice Orwough, has called on the Federal Government to intervene by building schools, hospitals and other infrastructure to support the people of the area, who were forced to stay in camps. internally displaced persons (IDP). .

Orwough, who is also the president of ALGON in the state, noted that more than 90 per cent of schools in Guma LGA are not functional due to repeated attacks by invaders.

He stated that many local government residents were displaced to IDP camps over time and currently only five schools remain functional in the entire council area.

He said: “Almost 90 per cent of schools in Guma LGA were destroyed. I doubt there are now up to five schools in the entire Guma LGA. The same goes for the hospitals in this area. That is why we want the federal government to help rebuild these infrastructures.”
While commending the efforts of the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, Orwough acknowledged that the governor’s intervention to address the plight of the IDPs has brought relief, allowing the majority of the displaced to return to their homes.

However, he expressed concern over the living conditions of residents in Guma LGA, stating that most of the returnees do not have accommodation.

“We ask the federal government to do something for us in Guma, in the area of building shelters and destroying schools and hospitals. Our people have returned to their villages thanks to the efforts of Governor Alia, but there are no shelters to live in,” he said.

The ALGON Chairman also appealed to compassionate individuals, NGOs and corporate organizations to assist the government in resettling the displaced people and help them regain their normal life in Guma LGA.
