The houses received the go-ahead from a government inspector after a call from the developers.

Details have been unveiled of a new Leicestershire housing estate described as “dangerous” by planners.

A bid to build 225 homes in Ratby was approved on appeal by a government inspector after Hinckley and Bosworth councilors initially blocked the plan in August 2023.

At the time, councilor Chris Boothby called it “the most ridiculous, speculative and dangerous application” he had “ever come across” due to the speed of traffic on Desford Lane, where the estate would be built.

Developer Gladman and Bletsoe has now outlined the size and type of homes that will be built off the road.

It intends to build six one-bedroom maisonettes, 12 two-bedroom bungalows, 42 two-bedroom houses, 84 three-bedroom houses, 57 four-bedroom houses and 24 five-bedroom properties.

The new homes will be accessed from Desford Lane.

The developer said 90 of the homes will be classified as “affordable,” the Local democracy reporting service.

The latest application also provides landscaping details, including “central open spaces for play and recreation.”

In planning documents, the company said it is “committed to creating a new built environment that will be distinctively ‘Ratby'”.
