Man seriously injured by gas explosion in his home

A man has been taken to hospital after being seriously injured in a suspected gas explosion at a house in West Yorkshire.

Emergency services were called to multiple reports of an explosion at a property in Marshall Street, Yeadon, at 22.35 GMT on Wednesday.

West Yorkshire Police said several homes had to be evacuated, two of which suffered “substantial damage”, however all residents except those in the two severely damaged properties have now returned to their homes.

A force spokesman said: “Initial investigations suggest it was a gas explosion, the source of the gas is currently under investigation.”

The force said officers would be present at the scene as the investigation continues.

Engineers from Leeds City Council are expected to attend to assess the damage to the two properties.

Northern Gas has been on site to make gas pipelines safe.
