Rideshare driver shot during attempted robbery in Hallandale Beach, police say – WSVN 7News | Miami news, weather, sports

HALLANDALE BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – A rideshare driver was shot in the shoulder while trying to intervene during an attempted robbery in Hallandale Beach, police said.

Officers responded to a reported shooting Thursday morning in the 300 block of 1st Street.

According to investigators, the incident unfolded when the rideshare driver stopped to drop off a passenger. When the driver exited the vehicle to help with his belongings, an unidentified suspect, described as a black man with his face covered, approached with a firearm and demanded money, police said.

The suspect then reportedly attempted to rob the passenger, attempting to take his phone and belongings. The driver intervened and was shot in the shoulder. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The passenger was physically uninjured in the incident.
