Meet OrthoNebraska’s Athlete of the Week

Our OrthoNebraska Athlete of the Week winner is Aurora’s Booker Scheierman!

Scheierman did it all in the Huskies’ win over Omaha Gross, posting 18 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, five steals and four blocks on 8-of-12 shooting.

“I’m just there to win and try to help my team win, but to get an individual accolade like this, I mean, it feels pretty good,” the 6-7 senior said.

Scheierman says after a slow start in the first half against Gross, coach Kevin Asher’s message was to distribute the ball more to open teammates.

“Our coach challenged us to start playing more together and start sharing the rock.”

Asher says that part of the game is where he has seen the most improvement from Scheierman.

“He’s so unselfish on the offensive end and draws so much attention that, you know, everyone wants that big number of scores, but realistically, he’s a type of guy that does a great job distributing.”

The victory put Aurora in the finals of the Ashland-Greenwood Christmas tournament, where the host Bluejays earned a close 60-56 victory.

With the Huskies sitting at 6-2 in a break between games, Scheierman explained what his team learned about itself during the first part of the season.

“That Ashland-Greenwood game was like a little bit of a slap in the face and that made us realize we had to get better in these close-game situations,” the Missouri State Northwestern basketball signee said.
