Bruins’ Stefanovic on facing his former teammate and being a role player

The No. 15 UCLA Bruins (11-2) have received impressive play from senior guard Lazar Stefanovic to this point in the season with an impact role off the bench. He has been a key player for this team and is one of many impact players that have led this team to an impressive start.

Stefanovic was part of the Bruins’ struggling season a year ago when they finished 16 of 17 and missed the national tournament. He averaged 34 minutes per game last year as a top star, but this season he has taken on a lesser role with improved supporting talent around him.

This season, the senior is averaging half the minutes he did a year ago at just 17 years old, but one could argue his impact is even greater. Averaging 6.2 points per game, Stefanovic shoots 43.3% from three-point range and has made 13 of his 30 total attempts this season.

The native of Belgrade, Serbia, spoke to the media on Thursday and expressed his thoughts on taking on a smaller role but still having it. He recognized the importance of staying ready at all times and being there when his team needs him to provide a spark.

“That’s basketball and that’s going to be my situation probably for the rest of my career,” Stefanovic said. “Wherever I go, I’ll have a lot of good players on my team, so you won’t be able to play 30 or 40 minutes and then no one will play that much anymore. You have to be able to be ready when your name is called, go out and produce, and that’s how it is, I think. , also a big part of maturity, always being ready and ready to make plays.”

UCLA thrives on having a multitude of impact players who can distribute the ball and receive scores from its entire roster. Stefanovic He’s one of many guys on this team who can shine in a big game and be the catalyst for a win on any given game day.

Stefanovic will almost certainly be counted on down the stretch this year to come in and make a big shot to silence the opponent or hit a game-ending three-pointer. You will ensure that you are ready at all times and are there to contribute when your team needs you.
