Minneapolis woman and baby die in accident in Kansas; several others seriously injured

A Minnesota woman and baby were killed and several others were seriously injured after a crash in Kansas early Thursday morning.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol Accident ReportA full-size Chevy Express pickup truck and the trailer it was pulling overturned in the southbound lanes of I-35 in Sumner County when a Jeep Grand Cherokee attempted to avoid the vehicle but struck it at 12:01 a.m. Thursday. .

There were nine total people in the van, eight of them were from Minnesota and the ninth person was listed as having an unknown state of residence.

Two of the people in the van, both from Minneapolis, Ernestina Eumana-Alvarez, 58, and an infant identified as Christian Gutierrez, died in the crash.

Additionally, authorities say five people in the van suffered serious injuries and two people, one of them a 1-year-old child, suffered minor injuries.

The three people in the jeep suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident.
