“We’re on cloud nine!” says the AFLW star

Former AFLW star and football commentator Abbey Holmes is gearing up for a big year ahead after announcing she and husband Keegan Brooksby are expecting their first child together.

“This year will certainly be the biggest and best yet, with the ultimate little teammate joining us in June!!” posted on Instagram on January 1.

“We can’t wait to meet you #babybrooksby.”

The couple shared the news with a carousel of photos showing Holmes’ growing baby bump.

The 33-year-old discovered she was pregnant shortly after running the New York Marathon in November 2024.

Needless to say, the news was “a little shocking given what my body had just been through.”

“But I’m amazed at what the human body can do,” she told Herald of the sun.

“Keegan and I told our families at Christmas, which was a really special time for all of us.

“We wanted to share our news with as many people as possible in person, so we’ve spent the last few weeks doing it. There were a lot of tears, that’s for sure.

“I have been lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful start to my pregnancy and we are enjoying every moment.”

Holmes joined the AFLW for its inaugural season in 2017, playing for Adelaide. When he stopped playing in 2018, he joined channel 7 as part of its commentary team for the AFL and AFLW.

The South Australian competed in Australian survivor in 2019, he placed fifth and returned for an “all-star” season in 2020.
