Although he was proven not to have made the statement now attributed to Houshmandzadeh, the NFL issued another $25,000 fine for comments Mixon did, in fact, make about the game, the outlet reported.

“Everyone knows how things are here.” Mixon is now fined for saying. “You can never leave it up to the refs. Everybody sees it, man.”

After the second fine, Mixon led to to express their discontent with the decision.

“So let me clarify that the NFL fined me $25,000 for something I didn’t even say. I called them about it and they said they fined me AGAIN for something that isn’t even a violation without even rescinding the first one. Where is the responsibility? Just respect the players,” Mixon wrote.

According The AthleticPeter Schaffer, Mixon’s agent, said that since the NFL did not pay the initial $25,000, they are operating as if they had to pay a total of $50,000 to settle the fine. “They did not say in this (second) letter, ‘We hereby rescind the original letter.’ They just said, ‘Here’s another letter.’ “So now we have two letters, two fines, for two different quotes,” Schaffer said.

“One that he didn’t say. One that doesn’t publicly criticize the officiating (by) the game officials. He’s criticizing his own players,” Schaffer continued. “I will defend Joe’s rights and then we will resort to all legal remedies.”
