The Warren boys basketball team earned its 10th victory in 11 games with a 74-52 all-district victory over Brookville on Saturday at Warren Area High School.

After a hiccup a week earlier with a Saturday loss at DuBois, the Dragons won their third of the week despite an intense Region 5 game Friday night at Fort LeBoeuf.

Brookville cut Warren’s lead to 38-34 in the third quarter Saturday before the Dragons went on an 11-0 run and never looked back.

Lucas Thrift scored 14 points in the first half for Warren in the first half, and 11 in the fourth quarter to make it a 22-11 Dragons loss.

Thrift finished with 27 points and teammate Logan Crissey added 20 in the win.

“I thought we came out of the locker room at halftime ready to go,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine, whose Dragons are 11-3 overall. “We proceeded to take control of the game in the first two minutes. Our transition game really increased and we were able to push the gap into the mid-twenties. Every time they ran us away, we responded. We got big minutes in this game from Allen (Eaton), Tage (Wyman) and Landon (Wood) due to foul trouble.”

While his defense led to transition baskets, Warren also handled the ball on Saturday.

“We had 10 total turnovers” Berdine said. “That’s the number we always want to be around if we think we’re going to have a chance to win.

“Three-game weeks are routine for everyone, coaches and players alike,” Berdine added, “So being able to go 3-0 against three quality opponents was a great week, and we celebrated with some donuts.”

Thrift added 6 rebounds and Grady Corey 5 in the win. Chase Sitler also had double figures in points with 10 and added five assists. Leihden Wotorson contributed 7 points and four assists, Eaton 5 points, and Wood and Wyman added fourth quarter free throws.

Brookville is 9-4 overall.

Wood had 17 points, Bradey Chase 11 and Kahle Kuzminski 8 in Warren’s 49-39 junior varsity win earlier Saturday.
