UFC 312 updated card revealed with a questionable PPV alignment

The UFC 312 Pay-Per-View card is quite disappointing. There are two UFC championship fights, which are always great, but on paper, neither is generating a ton of emotion for the February 8 card for Sydney, Australia.

By ESPNHere is a look at the combat order:

  • (c) Dricus du Plessis vs. Sean Strickland – UFC medium weight championship (185 pounds)
  • (c) Weili Zhang vs. Tatiana Suárez – UFC women’s straw weight championship (115 pounds)
  • Talisson Teixeira vs. Justin Tafa – Heavyweight (265 pounds)
  • Jimmy Crute vs. Rodolfo Bellato – Samipesado weight (205 pounds)
  • Jake Matthews vs. Francisco Prado – Welter weight (170 pounds)
  • Jack Jenkins vs. Gabriel Santos – Feather weight (145 pounds)
  • Tom Nolan vs. Vicheslav Borshchev – Light (155 pounds)
  • Cong Wang vs. Bruna Brazil – Fly weight (125 pounds)
  • Alexander Topuria vs. Cooper Grostee – Bantamweight (135 pounds)
  • Kevin Jousset vs. Jonathan Micallef – Welter weight (170 pounds)
  • Kody Steele vs. Rongzhu – Light (155 pounds)
  • Quillan Salkilld vs. ANSHUL JUJI – Light (155 pounds)
  • Hyun Sung Park vs. Nyamjargal Tumendembrel – Fly weight (125 pounds)

In the main event, the UFC medium weight champion, Dricus du Plessis, will defend his title against the former champion Sean Strickland in a revenge of his January 2024 fight at UFC 297.

DDP won the fight by divided decision and captured the title. Since he won the title, DDP has defended him successfully with a presentation victory over Israel Adesanya in August 2024 in UFC 305.

Strickland made his part to win a rematch, stopping the hard Khamzat Chimaev with a victory by divided decision over Paulo Costa in June 2024 in UFC 302. Many fans are less than excited about this confrontation.

Even DDP admitted that I would prefer to fight Chimaev because he thought the fight would be more exciting. However, Strickland was promised the opportunity, and for the UFC credit, they remain with that promise.

In the main event, Weili Zhang will defend his UFC female straw weight title against Tatiana Suárez. Weili is an outstanding fighter, and Suarez has been tabulated for a long time as the competitor in the division that could give the champion a difficult fight.

However, there has been almost zero construction for this fight, and happens in less than two weeks. It is emerging as a struggle for Chinese purists and fans, who are extremely loyal to Weili, since it has been a pioneer in his country in the mixed martial arts space.

That is not ideal.

The two title fights are not the most questionable aspects of the card; It is the rest of the PPV part of the show. The main card will open with Matthews vs. Meadow. None of the fighters is classified or even close to winning that distinction, regardless of what happens in that fight.

The next fight has the city’s favorite city against Bellato. Crute is an exciting fighter, and the crowd will be behind him, while Bellato can be close to a classification of the first 15. However, this fight feels more like a prelimited than the second fight in the PPV.

Teixeira-Tafafa’s fight could be great, but the first is making its debut in the main list after an impressive presentation in the Dana White Consender series, and the second is a KO artist with two important holes in his game: Stamina and Wrestling.

It is another fight that feels more like a prominent prelimite. With all honesty, this letter feels like an event of the night of fighting with two fights for the title to end the night.

In any case, I will be looking and I will have all the coverage.
