Hiker, 77, found dead near Mount Augustus after his vehicle stuck in Access Road in the middle of a dangerous heat wave

A 77 -year -old woman died near Mount Augustus in Western Australia after her vehicle was bogged down in a remote area when temperatures reached 47 ° C.

Queensland’s tourist visited the region to walk a path in Mount Augustus, although the climb is subject to a seasonal closure from November to February “to minimize exposure to a high or extreme temperature.”

He stayed in a local caravan park and left around 3 pm on Saturday to start his walk, but never returned, after his vehicle stuck along the way.

The caravan park staff began to look for her when she could not return and asked for help when they found their abandoned car.

The woman’s body was discovered under a tree near a remote access road on Sunday.

The inspector of the West Australia district, Scott Morrissey, said the 77 -year -old woman seemed to have tried to return to her feet.

“At some point, she seems to have bogged down her vehicle on the access road that surrounds Mount Augustus,” he said.

“We assumed from there, she left her vehicle and tried to return to the tourist park.

“Due to the extreme heat wave that is being experienced, it has clearly affected it.”

In 2020, three hikers died due to a heat stroke a few days after trying to walk along the Summit path, which caused the closure of the park during the hottest months of the year, and a touch of the curfew of the 7 am in September, October, March and April.

The temperatures in large parts of WA were in the age of 40 during the weekend, with the area surrounding Mount Augustus reaching 49 ° C.

Inspector Morrissey begged people to stay with their vehicles if they travel in remote areas and run into problems.

“All public members must follow official advice and warnings, since they are there for a reason,” he said.

“If you are going out of hiking, especially in such a hard field, let someone know where you are going, what time you expect to get there and consult with them once you arrive.

“Always stay with your vehicle.

“You must wear a lot of food and water, at least enough for a couple of days.”
