Upper East Side, New York Fatal Shock: Murdered driver, seriously injured passenger after Tesla crashed in FDR Drive

UPPER EAST SIDE (WABC) – One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a burning accident in the FDR unit.

Police say that the driver of a Tesla was killed after being expelled from the vehicle.

They say that the car hit a railing, overturned and exploded in flames on the lanes to the north near the exit of 71 street around 3 am

The 26 -year -old passenger was also expelled from the vehicle, but survived the impact. They were taken to the burning unit at the New York Presbyterian hospital – Cornell

Meanwhile, the driver was declared dead on the scene.

All FDR Drive lanes in the north direction are closed on 63rd Street, and south traffic is diverted in 96th Street.

Heather O’Rourke has the latest in traffic in the Upper East Side.

Firefighters have extinguished e-Battery lithium fire in Tesla, but there is concern that it can revive.

The witnesses said the police that Tesla was accelerating at the time it overturned.

“I was going at least 120, 130 (MPH). At least. And then, when he hit the other car, the damage was so much that he separated in half. And that began to catch fire,” a witness told Eyewitness News.
