Georgia da presents a new motion in the battle of mono facilities

Bainbridge, Georgia (Walb) – The residents of Decatur County organized an exhibition of Monkey Gate to prevent a proposed monkey installation from reaching the city.

As part of the exhibition, the neighbors made monkey boxes and played monkey noises to send a message to the project leaders.

“It brings it home and shows the harsh reality,” said Yven Merritt, a worried resident.

June Faircloth, a Bainbridge resident who is fighting the project through a lawsuit, says that the community knows that the fight is not over

“It can be more dramatic. We intend to do what is necessary to get your attention, ”he said. “Shouting monkeys … What will happen to them and who will protect them? We need everyone to take a position. “

For a year, several neighbors have vocally opposed to the controversial installation, which would eventually house 30,000 monkeys.

On Thursday, Decatur County District Prosecutor Joe Mulholland presented a new motion before the Superior Court to intervene in a civil lawsuit that several neighbors presented last year. This occurs after he presented another motion to intervene in December with respect to the demand for breach of the company against the county officials.

Several demands and appeals presented by the neighbors within the last year have put the project in stationary position, but after the Supreme Court of Georgia ruled that the project could go back in November 2024, the Safer Human Medicine (SHM) company promised to build The construction of the installation.

The Monkey Gate expo was held at the Joe L. Sweet Community Center located at 601 Potter Street in Bainbridge.

At this time, the Supreme Court is deciding whether they are willing to listen to the new appeal of the district prosecutor who opposes the installation. Officials of the Bainbridge Development Authority say they cannot comment on the pending litigation.

Safer Human Medicine said he is “excited to collaborate with the Development Authority to advance this project.”
