Five horses left after shipping, including intercepted sick horses

  • Five horses have died after the sick horses, including un controlled foals, “tangled with feces” were intercepted after they were found to travel from Ireland in horrible conditions.

Many of the horses were too sick and weak to travel, but they had been crowded in an inappropriate truck in which a foal was on the floor and could not stand up. Five pure Irish blood had to be thrown after the terrible experience.

World Welfare of Horses He shared his “outrage” in the discovery of the 20 horses in December 2024 – A year after rescuing 26 horses from being transported outside the United Kingdom.

The horses aboard the conveyor included pure Irish blood, Connema and leisure ponies, along with animals that were being legitimately transferred. At the time of his trip from Ireland, in Britain and to continental Europe, the United Kingdom and Ireland were experiencing stormy conditions.

Port of Dover officials were alerted to the conveyor and, to the inspection, discovered the “fallen” foal, which turned out that the truck be redirected to a retention patio where the true horror of the test was discovered.

The welfare field officer of the horses of horses, Rebecca Carter, said she was “faced with a heartbreaking scene” in the retention installation.

“The Equines were so still and quiet and seemed caps of their terrible experience,” he said.

“Several horses had low weight and strangles. Infected horses suffered from painful abscesses and fever. Two also had pneumonia, and some suffered skin conditions and several other health problems.

“There were three un controlled foals that were tangled with feces, since no one could grab them to clean them. They were completely terrified and when I approached them, they buried their heads and snuggled together in a corner of the stable.

“In general, it was an incredibly sad view to see this very mixed group of horses, some of which were completely cut and calculated, so they previously taken care of themselves, now wearing bewildered, poor and depressed, with vacant expressions.”

The beneficial organization suspects that some were being smuggled by fattening and killing, despite the fact that the export of fact live for the killing of the United Kingdom was prohibited in May 2024.

If seven of the horses that had a better health were claimed by their owners. The remaining eight were abandoned, including a pregnant mare and the foals.

“It is not only the health of these horses that were put at risk, there is a major problem here in which these horses carried highly contagious and, therefore, a threat of biosafety for all those with whom they came into contact,” Mrs. Carter added.

The clamping patio and Ventrete of racing horses (Ror) helped World Horse Welfare. Ror provided support and funds to cover the costs related to the two pure surviving blood.

Philippa Gilmore, Chief of Welfare Operations of Ror, said: “We were deeply saddened by this case and that the living transport of horses to the massacre continues despite the recent change in the law.

“Thanks to our excellent working relationship with World Horse Welfare, we were able to intervene and provide financial support to the two Irish survivors, ensuring that they can receive attention at the exceptional facilities of World Horse Welfare.

“We hope that these horses receive the proper support they deserve and find love houses in the near future.”

The unabled horses were signed in the worldwide welfare of horses and were put in quarantine before being taken to the rescue and resumption of the farm of the beneficial organization in Norfolk.

Everyone receives medical attention and treatment with a view to relocating in the future.

The Executive President of World Horse Welfare, Roly Owers, said: “We applaud the animal and plants health agency (APHA) for stopping the conveyor in the first instance and ensuring that the horses were taken to a safe patio. Thanks to their rapid actions, these horses felt relieved of their horrendous trip and given the care they needed desperately.

“We always knew that the death of the Animal Welfare Law (live exports) of 2024, although a big step forward, would never work in isolation. However, it is shocking to have been involved in another rescue of high profile horses in Dover, many of which were probably exported by killing. “

Mr. Owers added: “We do not apologize as a broken record, and practically on the 12th anniversary of the horse meat scandal, without a system of identification and digital traceability and adequate digital traceability in the United Kingdom and In all Europe, the well -being of Equines will be transported will never be completely protected.

“We believe that horses are transported regularly outside the United Kingdom and until such a system is in place, horses will continue to be exploited for profit.”
