John Swinney rules out the reintroduction of Lynx to Scotland

Some wildlife groups are eager to see that Lynx one day freely roams legal reintroductions.

Peter Cairns, from Lynx to Scotland Project, an association of three characteristics that works to restore them to the Scottish highlands, said there was no reason why there could not be a “carefully managed” reintroduction.

He said: “John Swinney’s government was brave enough to declare a climatic emergency when others were sitting in the fence.

“Climate and biodiversity crises are inextricably linked, so we must be clear about the choice we face: we support the business uncomfortable with coexistence with wild animals, such as Lynx, or support its absolute exclusion.”

He added that the constant survey pointed to “more Scottish than ever” before “that support a carefully managed Lince reintroduction.

“If countries like Uganda or Sri Lanka, with much higher and lower human populations, can somehow coexist with elephants, leopards or lions, it is difficult to argue that Scotland cannot accommodate a medium -sized cat like Lynx” , said.
