SACP gives the government 4 days for Arceormittal intervention

During a peaceful picket in the offices of the department in Pretoria on Friday, the SACP presented a memorandum of demands, asking for urgent actions.

More than 3,000 jobs in Vereeniging and Newcastle are at risk as the steel company advances with reduction, which attributes to financial challenges.

The SACP has asked for the nationalization of Arceormittal, arguing that the privatization of state companies has led to failure.

“If you see the closure of Arceormittal, it will indicate the failure of privatization. Arceormittal was ECC, a state company, then, in 1989 it was privatized. This is a sad fault of capitalism,” said the member of the Central Committee of SACP, Phumzile Mnguni .

United by the ANC and Cosatu, the party reiterated its demand for government intervention to prevent job loss.

Accepting the memorandum on behalf of the General Dic Dictor, Dr. Tebogo Makube, assured the protesters that the concerns raised would be addressed and transmitted to the minister.

“Anyway, we are dealing with this matter, since the government will try to prevent the situation from happening and we are committing to that,” he said.

Although Arceormittal delayed networks in a month, unions and political allies insist that a postponement is not a solution, urging the government to ensure long -term labor protection.

“The postponement is not withdrawn and we are very aware of the process itself,” said Vice President of Cosatu Tshwane Cluster Thebba Masuku.

According to Tami Didiza de Arceormittal, the extension is supported by a shareholders loan from R380 million of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to fulfill pending orders, while discussions with the Government on the future of the Long Steel Division continue.

The SACP has promised to increase protests if its demands are not met within the given deadline.
