Complete list of Trump Mitch McConnell Cabinet nominees has voted against

Republican senator Mitch McConnell was the only legislator of the Republican Party who voted against Tulsi Gabbard’s To be the next national intelligence director, marking the second time he rejects President Donald Trump’s nominees. The other was Pete Hegsethwho was finally confirmed as Secretary of Defense.

None of McConnell’s oppositions succeeded, since both Gabbard and Hegseth have been confirmed in their positions. On Tuesday he was the only member of the Republican Party to oppose Gabbard, with the vote of 52-48.

The Republican helped the nomination of Matt Gaetz, who had to withdraw from consideration as a general prosecutor after not obtaining enough votes. At least four Republican senators, including McConnell, “relentlessly opposed” their confirmation, the New York Times revealed in November.

McConnell has opposed Trump more openly since he resigned as a republican leader in the upper house and announcing that he will not seek re -election after his mandate ends. In fact, McConnell has called Trump a “narcissistic” and said he was counting the days until he left office in his first term, according to his biography that came out last year.

Despite this, as well as Trump’s visible animosity to McConnell, the Senate minority leader supported the former president’s candidacy in early 2024, saying “should not surprise us.”
