Hot Chile farmers as prices fall in half

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rytu Sangham has urged the state government to intervene and immediately verify the fall in the price of chiles due to the market cartelization. The fall in the prices of RS 25,000 per quintal at RS 12,000 has led to the suicide of two farmers and the death of another due to heart attack.

Write an open letter to Prime Minister A. Revanth Reddy Sangham Secretary T. Sagar wrote: “The government should open Markfed centers and buy chiles to save farmers. The state government should exert pressure on the center to establish a Board of Chile. Merchants attribute the price drop to loosened exports, but it is a well -known fact that rates increase once the product is in the hands of merchants. The Congress party had promised to provide a minimum support price of 15,000 rupees per quintal, but due to higher costs, farmers should obtain a price of RS 25,000. Chile’s productivity has fallen from 30 to 40 normal quintals per acre to 12 quintals this year. ”

Farmers spent RS 1.5 Lakh to RS 2 Lakhs for Acre this year and are not recovering even their investment. This has led to the protests of the farmers in the districts of Khammam, Kothagudem, Mulugu, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda.

The farm leader declared that the rates in the international market are good and that Markfed will not incur losses, even if Chile buys for RS 25,000 per quintal. The lack of enough cold warehouses in the state has led to the exploitation of farmers.

The government must take immediate measures to stop this exploitation, Sagar said in the letter.
