Georgetown man sentenced in Myrtle Beach case of domestic violence

Myrtle Beach, SC (WMBF) – A man from South Strand will spend two decades after bars after severely hitting a woman in 2023.

Prosecutors said Christova Knowlin, 37, was sentenced Wednesday for domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after a brief judgment.

The judge sentenced Knowlin to 20 years in prison, where he must comply at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for early liberation.

Knowlin’s conviction comes from an incident of domestic violence in the Myrtle Beach area on September 29, 2023, where his victim was seriously injured.

She was in court during her sentence, but she didn’t want to testify. His family helped prosecutors presenting evidence of abuse.

“That is not uncommon in these cases that a victim does not want to testify or be part,” said the lawyer of the 15th Jimmy Richardson Circuit. “Cases of domestic violence have their own personality. There is a lot of psychology involved in these cases and it can be very difficult for the victim. But we owe the duty of society to protect victims from domestic violence and hold those responsible for that violence. “
