Davenport, Iowa (KWQC) – The Iowa Supreme Court has failed against Scott County in a case about the transparency of the government.

The Superior Court He issued an opinion On Friday morning, he ordered the county to publish the requests he received for a seat of the open county board.

The county had fought to keep them confidential.

It started last year when a seat was opened at the County Board. The county asked the people to request the work, but kept the names and requests secret.

Then, the county resident, Allen Diercks and former Supervisor Diane Holst He sued to get themarguing that the public had the right to know who was trying to fill the open seat.

In its divided ruling, the Supreme Court said documents are public records. He ordered that the names and requests for the seat of the County Board be released to the public.

Scott County was also ordered to pay lawyers for Diercks and Holst.

The seat opened when the supervisor Tony Knobbe left to become a county treasurer. A county hiring committee finally chose Rita Rawson to fill the opening.
