After the general meeting of shareholders held by Syngenta Group on February 14, 2025, the company announced that Alf Barrios, a Spanish and American citizen, has been unanimously chosen as a new independent director of the company, as of February 14 of 2025. He has also been appointed member of the Board Compensation Committee and the Audit Committee.

Alf Barrios has more than 35 years of experience working worldwide in the sectors of natural resources and energy. He retired from Rio Red, a world leader of mining and material 2014 as CEO of its global aluminum business (Montreal, Canada). Before Río Tinto, he worked for 21 years in BP, a leading oil and gas company, where his last role was the Executive Director and Evp downstream for TNK-BP (Moscow, Russia). Alf Barrios is an international leader recognized in the management of global value chains, having administered production, commerce, offer and logistics, and sales and marketing, in Europe, America, Asia, Middle East, Russia, Africa and Australasia.
