Fans of the University Challenge were seriously distracted by the ‘meaningless’ habit of a contestant during the episode on Monday night.

The spectators of the BBC Two show saw eight students from the students of Queen’s Belfast and Warwick University Fight a place in the semifinals.

The presenter Amol Rajan took them through a double elimination round, where the students had three opportunities to collect at least two victories to qualify for the next round.

The Queen’s team was formed by Sarah Carlisle, Jason McKillen, Daniel Rankin, Sam Thompson, while Ananya Goverarajan, Thomas Hart, Oscar Siddle, Benjamin Watson played for Warwick.

While looking at the episode, many fans took X, previously known as Twitter, to point out an unusual habit of the Thomas player.

Many pointed out that the player, from southern Wales, had a unique way of buzzing for his questions.

One tweeted: “Just observing the action of the elbow.”

A second said: ‘Noooo! No Hart and his flying elbow again.

“Oh God, the elbow has returned,” added a third.

A room wrote: ‘Why are the meaningless action of Hart’s elbow and his absolute rascal medallion? #Universitychallenge.

A fifth questioned: “Hart moves on the bell so that God can push down in his elbow?”

But it is not the first time that Thomas has done it on our screens.

The mathematics student was also at the University Challenge in early February and then did the same.

The February 3 delivery of the BBC show saw Warwick face players from Oriel College Cambridge.

On Monday night, Warwick University were winners crowned from the episode with 215 points.

Queen’s Belfast finished the show with 95 points.

But fortunately they are not out of the competition yet.

Host amol said: ‘You know what boys, that was such an impressive action against exceptional performance.

‘And it would be very sad if we had to say goodbye to the potato, and you!

‘But fortunately for you, it is not over because you can return and have another chance.

‘So we still don’t have to say goodbye.

‘Although Warwick, we have to say well. I mean, that is a tremendously impressive performance.

‘And imagine how good you had been if we had given you femotochemistry as well.

‘That would have been even better.

Bad luck in that. But we’ll see you again!

University Challenge is broadcast on Mondays at 8:30 pm on BBC Two and is available to transmit in Iplayer.
