The suspect of stabbing of the Berlin Holocaust “planned to kill the Jews”: Police

Sedan:

A Syrian man arrested after stabbing in the Berlin Holocaust monument who wounded a Spanish man had been hosting a “plan to kill the Jews,” police and prosecutors said on Saturday.

The 19 -year -old arrested Friday with blood stains in his hands carried a copy of the Qur’an and a prayer carpet, and the initial investigations suggested “connections with the conflict of the Middle East,” they said.

The attacker approached the 30 -year -old Spanish man from behind around 6:00 pm (1700 GMT) on Friday and stabbed him in the neck with a knife, according to researchers.

The assault took place in the monument to the murdered Jews of Europe, a grim grid of concrete steles located near the Brandenburg Gate and the United States embassy in Berlin.

The victim suffered injuries that threaten life in his neck and had to be placed in artificial coma, but was no longer in critical condition.

The Syrian suspect arrived in Germany in 2023 as an unaccompanied minor, police said. He was granted asylum and lived in the eastern city of Leipzig, according to the researchers.

There was no evidence of links with other people or groups and the suspect had not caught police attention in Berlin, they said.

The assault occurred two days before a general choice after a campaign focused largely on immigration after a series of mortal stabbing attacks and car spell attributed to migrants.

Six people who witnessed the knife attack on Friday received advice from rescue services on the scene, where bloody clothes were left on the ground.

Germany has been increasingly alarmed by the increase in the feeling of anti -Jews and violence since the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023 against Israel that caused the war in Gaza.
