Kingston, Jamaica – the spokesman for the opposition on health and well -being, Dr. Alfred Dawes, is asking the government to immediately address a continuous salary dispute between government medical consultants, which results in them as a result that they organize a disease throughout The island.

According to reports, medical consultants are rejecting what they say is a “mediocre response” of the Government on continuous salary disputes and unresolved issues derived from the recent compensation restructuring exercise.

Dawes, in a statement on Monday, urged the government to immediately address “injustice” and pay the medical consultants what they are owed.

“Today, Jamaica’s health system faces an unprecedented crisis, since government medical consultants have made the difficult decision to withdraw their services in protest of the continuous breach of paying their retroactive salaries under the new compensation review for the Public Sector. This disease throughout the island has interrupted operations in clinics and hospitals, leaving patients in limbo and further exposing the fragility of our health system. It is deeply worrying that, although the government quickly approved and salary increases were paid, including retroactive payments, our medical consultants, the same professionals in charge of saving lives, are waiting for what they are owed, “he said.

He continued: “This obvious inequality is not only an insult to our health workers, but a betrayal of Jamaican people who depend on them to receive attention. Medical consultants are the cornerstone of our
Medical Care System. Their experience, dedication and leadership are vital for the provision of quality care. However, they are forced to take this drastic action because the government has failed to honor its
commitment to them. “

“It’s not just about money; It is respect, equity and the value we give to those who dedicate their lives to serve others. Government inaction sends a clear message: that the health and well -being of the nation are not a priority. While politicians did not hesitate to guarantee their own financial security, they have left our health workers, and by extension, the Jamaican people, to suffer the consequences of their negligence, ”Dawes added.

Dawes urged the government to exercise urgency and commitment to address the matter, since the health of the nation depends on it.
