Gwamanda promises to retaliate after losing the mayor of Joburg in case of fraud

Johannesburg – the former mayor of Johannesburg, Kabelo Gwamanda, says he plans to retaliate after losing his job for a fraud case that has now retired.

Gwamanda and his coaccusado Mduduzi Zondo appeared in the Court of Protea Magistrates on Tuesday, where the State announced that it provisionally withdrew all the charges against them.

The couple initially faced multiple fraud positions to allegedly cheat Soweto’s residents through a funeral policy scam that they made between 2011 and 2012.

The judicial records show that the case of fraud against Kabelo Gwamanda was registered in May 2023, the same month that became mayor of Johannesburg.

Gwamanda said the fraud charges that hang on his head contributed to lost his work as mayor and later as MMC for community development.

“I have lost a job, two works of fact, I have lost my reputation. I have been criminalized by the capitalist establishment of white monopoly, so it is fair to take reprisals and everyone must count.”

Gwamanda is still an ordinary councilor for Public Relations for the municipality of Johannesburg.

He said he is still considering all his options regarding his next movement.
