‘Zombie cigarettes’: Thai authorities warn about mortal drug vape

He Thai The Government warned young people who remain attentive to the growing threat of a new form of narcotic, called “zombie cigarettes”, which combines electronic cigarettes with the dangerous drug ethomidate.

Anukul Testaksanusak, deputy spokesman for Prime Minister’s office, said Monday that the authorities had taken a significant amount of the newly developed drug and pledged to intensify their repression against it.

The authorities said in a statement published on the same day that zombie cigarettes are circulating mainly in the areas of nightlife, but that are also illegally sold online and in social environments. The statement warned the public not to be deceived by statements that they are safe to use.

What makes zombies cigarettes so dangerous is their use of etomidato, an anesthetic agent that can cause severe drowsiness, reduced breathing rates and even death in some cases, according to the statement.

“There is no way of knowing in which substances the seller intentionally mixes or how much (narcotics are contained),” Anukul added.
