After the ruling of the Court of Appeals, Det with Kelly Sharp, of the North Yorkshire Police, said: “I am pleased that the court agreed that the original sentence was excessively indulgent.

“Domestic abuse and violence against women and girls is a serious threat to our society and today’s result sends a clear message that we will do everything in our power to ensure that criminals are taken from the streets as long as possible.”

At the Initial Judgment Hearing in York Crown Court in December, Nesfield also received a five -year restriction order.

North Yorkshire police confirmed that other crimes, including six assault charges, one of intentional strangulation and one of criminal damage, were allowed to remain in the archive.
