Charleston’s wife declares the Covid-19 relief fraud scheme, says prosecutors

A woman from Charleston declared fraud guilty after stealing more than $ 20,000 in coronavirus relief and depositing him in his personal account, prosecutors said.

Wendy Ann Thomas, 47, declared himself guilty of charges of helping and inciting money laundering after admitting that having $ 20,833 of a loan of salary protection plan, in which he was illegally obtained by another individual, deposited in his account in June 2022, according to a press release from the office of the Office of the Prosecutor of the United States, South District of Virginia.

Thomas withdrew $ 17,000 from the account, allegedly knowing that the funds had been obtained illegally.

According to prosecutors, Thomas is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12 and faces a maximum fine of 10 years in prison, a three -year supervised release and a fine of $ 250,000. She owes also the restitution of the total amount.
